里克Baitz composes chamber, 电子, vocal 和 orchestral music, as well as music for film, 戏剧和舞蹈. His work has been performed at venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to Merkin Hall 和 The Cell. Innova Recordings recently released a well-regarded CD of his electro-acoustic works, 成光, including the Juilliard-commissioned “Hall of Mirrors”, for percussion quartet 和 电子s, 和 his string quartet “Chthonic 跳舞s”, featuring violinists Mary Rowell 和 Joyce Hammann, violist Elizabeth Meyers, 和 cellist Ashley Bathgate. Film score credits range from 2019’s acclaimed feature documentary “What She Said: The Art of Pauline Kael”, opening at NYC’s Film Forum on Christmas 2019, to HBO’s “The Vagina Monologues” 和 the Sundance award-winning “The Education of Shelby Knox”, 在许多其他方面. In 2016, Rick embarked upon a multi-year scoring project, composing soundtracks for several immersive installation pieces for the gr和 opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, as well as the FDR Presidential Library.

Strongly influenced by the music he heard growing up in Los Angeles, 里约热内卢, 和德班, 南非, Rick received his DMA in 作文 from Columbia University, where he studied with Mario Davidovsky 和 Jack Beeson, 和 his Bachelor’s 和 Master’s at Manhattan School of 音乐, where he worked with Elias Tanenbaum, Charles Wuorinen 和 Ursula Mamlock.  He is the recipient of multiple awards 和 grants, including a fellowship to Tanglewood, where he studied with George Perle, 和 multiple fellowships to the MacDowell 和 Yaddo artist colonies.

Rick recently spent four years as Chair of Vermont College of Fine Arts’ 音乐 作文 program, where he remains active as a core faculty member. He is also founding director of BMI's advanced film scoring workshop, "Composing for the Screen", for which he received one of BMI’s highest honors, the Classic Contribution Award. In the Fall of 2018 he began teaching 得分到图片Advanced 作文 at The Juilliard School.
